Wellington's cheque is for a princely sum -  how did he spend it?

A cheque for sale, written- and signed- by The Duke of Wellington. The Coutts cheque, dated 9th May 1828, numbered 45, and requesting £2323 cash payment from the bank.

Condition report: removed from an album. Slight ageing to the paper. Ink designation and signature clear.

Note: The Duke of Wellington cheque, being part of a collection of Wellington-related artefacts  assembled  by the Landlord of The Duke of Wellington Public House, Marlborough, England (1950s). Most of the  artefacts, remaining with the pub through subsequent purchase/sale.
