Both the obverse and reverse, clear with most definition remaining. Pleasing patination. The ribbon a later replacement.

Notes on the 32nd Regiment of Foot: The 32nd fought  at the Battle of Quatre Bras, arriving  just in time to prevent the French advance.  Just two days later at the Battle of Waterloo, the 32nd were stationed opposite the French main attacks where they stoically held their ground before dropping into a regimental 'death howl' as they attacked Napoleon's assaulting troops.*

There were 647 men of all ranks at the start of 18 June 1815: the day closed with just 131 men standing; the 32nd suffered the greatest loss of any regiment on that day.

Notes on Private Thomas James: Born in Birmingham, James enlisted into the 32nd Regiment of Foot on 30th September 1813, he was just 15 years old. James was present at Quatras Bras & The Battle of Waterloo, (fighting in Captain Hawe's Company).

In 1830 he travelled with his regiment to Canada. Private Thomas James died some five years later following an accident. His papers confirm:

'accidentally killed by a fall from a ladder in the barrack square at Montreal.'

The Waterloo Medals is for sale with various paperwork copies.

* The 32nd Regiment of Foot being notable for their 'death howl.'
