Bugle Calls to Commemorate

 

 

 

A Waterloo period, light infantry shako badge for sale. The brass battle badge in the form of a bugle.

Size: 4.50 cm x 4.50 cm.

Condition report: Excavated condition. Some verdigris present.

Provenance: The bugle badge excavated from the Waterloo battlefield by former Waterloo Museum proprietor, Derek Saunders.

Note: Derek Saunders was responsible for restoring the Hougoumont well and garden wall (1979-1985). During visits to the Waterloo battlefield in the course of his restoration work he excavated numerous items, including the shako badge offered for sale.

The Waterloo Museum, curated by Saunders, closed  in the 1990s. Many Waterloo objects from the collection were sold to David Phillips, the notable autograph dealer. Phillips sold the 'Waterloo Collection' in the 2000s.
