A WWI 'First Day Somme' Military Medal for sale with General Maxse Gallantry Parchments. The Military Medal with ribbon awarded to Corporal Donald Gray, 8th Bn, Norfolk Regiment.

The Military Medal sale includes  Gray's Certificate of Demobilisation and two Gallantry Parchments given to Gray (personally) by Major General Maxse.

 

The first Gallantry Prchment dated 28/29th September 1915. The second Parchment dated July 1st 1916 and stating 'During the Battle of the Somme.'

  

Condition report: Corporal Gray's Military Medal lightly cleaned in the past and with original silk ribbon. Both Gallantry Parchments in overall excellent condition. The Certificate of Demobilisation with folds and general use. 

Notes on Corporal Donald Gray: The Medal Roll confirms Gray also saw service in R.O.D - R.E. (Railway Operating Division). The Military Medal was awarded during the attack of the 53rd Bde, 18th Div. South West of Montanban. There was particularly heavy fighting resulting in 385 casualties.
