SAS medal for sale with Malay Emergency clasp


SAS General Service Medal for sale with Malaya clasp and ribbon. The medal awarded to Trooper S. Rutherford. The Elizabeth R medal impressed, ' 22773697 TPR S RUTHERFORD. S.A.S.' 

Condition report: The medal in excellent to near mint condition. Uncleaned.

Notes: The Special Air Service [SAS] is a special forces unit of the British Army. Founded by David Sterling as a regiment [1941], disbanded [October 1945], and reconstituted as a Corps [1950].

21 SAS Squadron was raised to fight in the Korea War [1950]. After several months training the  Squadron was informed it would not be required in Korea, and volunteered to fight in the Malay Emergency: Trooper Rutherford was part of this elite squadron.

Addititional notes: It is particularly rare to find medals for sale impressed 'SAS.' The SAS General Service Medal with Malay Emergency clasp presents an opportunity for further research.
