RFC medal pair for sale. The War Medal and Victory Medal both impressed with name rank and R.F.C (Royal Flying Corps) designation ' 36589 PTE.W.J.CHAMPION R.F.C. The medals sold with the original cardboard box. Ribbons present.
Additionally, there are two good quality original photographs of Champion in Royal Flying Corps uniform. Both are dated 1916 to the reverse. There are also two formal documents from the R.A.F. Record Office (Medal Section) Ruislip detailing the granting of the medals.
Condition report: The Royal Flying Corps medal pair in excellent condition, both with period ribbons (almost certainly the ribbons issued with the medals. The medals unpolished, and now showing light age. The War Medal darkened. Naming clear and sharp. The orginal cardboard box complete with name papers stuck to the lid. The box in slightly tatty condition. The documents showing various folds and use. The photographs generally clean.
Note: National Archive documents present. These state that Champion enlisted into the RFC as 2/am (Aircraft mechanic 2nd Class) July 1916. In service until September 1917. He was stationed in France throughout the period 1916 to 1917. Returned home in September 1917 as no longer physically fit for service. Medal entitlement shown.
