A Duke of Welllington portrait miniature for sale. The portrait miniature, commissioned in 1806, and similar in style to portraits by John Hoppner and Robert Home. The miniature shows the Duke of Wellington dressed in his scarlet coatee with golden braids, along with his star and ribbon of the Order of the Bath (conferred in 1805).

The watercolour on ivory portrait miniature sits in an oval, golden-reeded frame, on a black, papier mache base. To the top is a gilted-brass wall-hanger with thistle & rose decoration.

Size: Miniature 7cm x 6cm. Overall size including papier mache frame 14cm x 12cm.

The reverse to the Wellingotn portrait miniature shows original paper backing with ink inscription, 'Lt.General Sir Arthur Wellesley 1806,' and label bearing the inked name 'G.Lloyd' (possibly the individual responsible for commissioning the work).
