Northern Ireland General Service Medal & South Atlantic Medal to LCpl Christopher 'Smudge' John Smith, Para.

The General Service Medal with Northern Ireland clasp and impressed, '24342781 PTE C J SMITH, PARA.' The South Atlantic Medal with ribbon bearing Rosette and impressed, '24342781 LCPLC J SMITH PARA.' The medals mounted for wear.

Condition report: Both medals in excellent to near mint condition.

Notes 1: LCPl 'Smudge', served with the Second Batallion Parachute Regiment [2 PARA]. 2 PARA saw action in Northern Ireland as part of Operation Banner [1970s]. During the Falklands War, 2 PARA saw action in The Battle of Goose Green (28-29 May 1982), and The Battle of Wireless Ridge (13-14 June 1982). Various copies of documents present.

Notes 2: The nickname 'Smudge' is believed to originate from the British armed forces. The colloquialism being conferred to stokers and blacksmiths [in the days of steam- and coal power], on account of sustaining marks ['smudges'].

Notes 3: Immaculate Second is the regimental motto for the Second Batallion Parachute Regiment [2 PARA].
