A Naval General Service Medal for sale with 4th November, 1805 clasp, and important, HMS Caesar,'Strachan's Action' provenance. The NGSM to John Pendleton, an Ordinary Seaman aboard HMS Caesar.
The Naval General Service Medal is in overall excellent condition to obverse, reverse & suspension. The medal has some light knocks and scuffing to the centre-naming at the medal base; the John Pendleton name is legible. The NGSM has an original silk ribbon (showing light use). John Pendleton was a unique name to the Roll.
Note: HMS Caesar was Sir Richard Strachan' s flagship. With a fleet of eight vessels, Strachan's remit was to hunt-down French vessels that had escaped unscathed from the main Battle of Trafalgar. Stachan successfully detected and engaged four French vessels at Cape Ortegal. The French Man of War, Mont Blanc, surrendered to HMS Caesar during the action. Although referred to as the Battle of Cape Ortegal, it was more generally called 'Strachan's Action.'
