provenance: The cap acquired from the Bavarian Film Company by the American military historian, George Peterson during the late 1970s. Due to Peterson being a respected historian, he gained entry to many European museums and costumiers, and managed to acquire a vast array of important items. It was Peterson that managed to acquire many of the German standards from various Russian museums and take them back to America.

Additional notes: The Bavarian Film Company had a large costume department. Directly after the war, they were actively collecting Third Reich period uniforms and accessories for use in films. This Reichsleiter visor cap was one such item. According to Peterson, the film company had mistakenly thought this cap was one of Hitler's, and had marked it as such to the lining.
