Lemania's contracted Royal Navy Chronograph
During the late 1950s / early 1960s, the famous Swiss watchmaking company, Lemania, were contracted by the British War Department, to provide high quality robust chronographs for use by the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. Today these remain highly sought after by military watch collectors.
Item description: Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm chronograph for sale made by Lemania, Switzerland. The RNFAA chronograph, with large stainless steel turned case (48.0 mm x 42.0 mm including shrouded crown), and screw case-back. The black dial with the Lemania brand-name, Tritium 'T' logo, along with the War Department arrow, and 'Incabloc' designation. 1-12 markers, and sweep seconds hand. Horizontal subsidiary dials at '9' and '3.'
To the reverse, screw case-back with markings, War Department arrow, '0552/924-3306' and serial number. The high quality calibre 2200 (Incabloc protected), steel movement nicely-finished. The balance with screw-in weights. The Lemania brand-name, and movement number to the top bridges.
Condition report: light use to the stainless steel case. Plexi-glass clear and free from adverse scratching. Dial excellent and original. Hands perfect with original finish. Case-back clean and free from adverse scratches or damage, serial-numbering clear; the case-back shows a nato-style strap previously worn. Movement particularly clean and functioning.
The watch for sale with a six month warranty. Recently serviced.
Note: The Incabloc protected version of this Lemania Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm pilots chronograph was available from the later 1950s. The watch for sale being an example with shrouded crown, and in service during the 1960s.
