Dirty Dozen, British Army watch for sale made by Longines circa 1944. 

The Dirty Dozen watch with satin stainless steel, turned case (47.0 mm x 37.0 mm excluding crown), and contract, screw stainless steel case-back. Typical black dial with the Longines trade-name, and War Department arrow. The dial with 1-12 hour digits, 60-second scale with luminous hour-marks. Subsidiary seconds-dial at 18.00 hrs. 

To the reverse, case-back with markings, War Department  arrow, 'WWW F 5805,' serial number, and case number '2081'. The case-lug also stamped  number '2801'. The inside to the case-back with arrow and serial number. The particularly high quality, 15-jewel  brass movement with mercuric gilt finish to the main bridges. The watch balance with screw-in weights. The Longines trade-name, and movement number positioned to the main Bridge.   

Condition report: Just very light use to the unpolished case. Plexi-glass with light use, clear and free from adverse scratching. Dial perfect and original. Hands perfect and with original luminous paint. Case-back generally clean andwith just some minor scratch marks by the opening grooves. Movement Particularly clean and fresh. Movement functioning, but un-serviced for several decades.

Note:This style of Longines Dirty Dozen watch is often [incorrectly] referred to as the Greenlander, since it was believed to be the timepiece used in the 1953 Greenland Expedition; the Rolex Tudor was the 'Expediton timepiece.'

Provenance: The watch, was one of five Dirty Dozen Longines purchased by the Vendor's uncle  from a Ministry of Defence sale [1960s]. A letter-of-provenance from the Vendor is included in the sale.
