Military General Service Medal. Salamanca & Pyrenees Clasps - Wounded - 32nd Foot

A Military General Service Medal for sale with  clasps for Salamanca and Pyrennes. The Military General Service Medal to Private James Witham, 32nd Regiment of Foot. Complete with ribbbon.

Condition report: Medal in overall excellent condition. Naming clear. Ribbon an older replacement.

Note: James Witham was born in the county of York, and joined the 32nd Regiment of Foot in 1808. He fought with his regiment in Spain.

Mullen's MGS Roll confirms  Witham also saw action at  Waterloo; James Whitham listed  on Waterloo Roll. This is confirmed by his discharge papers of 1816.  Witham had his right thigh amputated by the regimental surgeon:  his leg-wound most likely incurred at Waterloo.

Additional notes: Only 7 of this clasp combination to the regiment.  The 32nd (Cornish Regiment) were renowned for their rousing Death Howl before attack.

Provenance: Glendining 1964.
