position of La Haye Sainte
Hand-coloured aquatint for sale detailing La Haye Sainte (The Sacred Hedge). The aquatint engraved by Sutherland and published by Jenkins, March 1816. The full title:
'Centre of the British Army at La Haye Sainte June 18th 1815.'
Description: La Haye Sainte, at the foot of an escarpment on the Charleroi-Brussels road. The road leading from La Belle Alliance, (Napoleon's H.Q.). The French front-line was located along the road. The Duke of Wellington positioned most of his forces to either side (of the roads behind the ridge on the Brussels side). Size 37.0 cm x 31.0 cm.
Condition report: The aquatint originally mounted to board. Some general discolouration and age. Colours remaining clear. Old breakage towards the left-hand upper corner. Several old framers markings to the reverse of the board. Delicate
