Kriegsmarine Dagger By Carl Eickhorn | Perfect Provenance.

Kriegsmarine dagger for sale by Eickhorn Solingen. The Kriegsmarine officers dagger with off-white ivorine grip, with golden wire binding. Scabbard of lightning bolt design, but with the scarce rope ring mounts. The dagger with plain blade bearing the later Eickhorn manufacturer's logo. Both the blade and the top scabbard section engraved with the Kriegsmarine serial numner '0.731'. Additionally, the blade is stamped with the Waffenamt mark. The dagger retaining its silver-aluminium portepee.

Additional items for sale with the dagger, include a woven German army breast eagle & swastika. A German Custom Officer collar patch. A German army silver-aluminium oakleaves & cockade. Some German coins.

Condition report: The brass work with most gilt now gone. The grip complete with gilt wire bindings. One small crack in evidence. The plain blade showing some light use. Generally a good polished finish still evident. The lightning bolt scabbard with one dent to the lower section. The pressure opening button not working correctly, and the dagger slides out of the scabbard with ease, but is not held in place by the catch. The silver-aluminium portepee never removed from the dagger. The portepee showing much use, and badly frayed.

The additional items showing some light use.

Provenance: Acquired by Captain Edward Scott in 1945, where it is believed he acquired the dagger and other artifacts at Bremen. Scott was fighting with the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and saw action at Arnheim, Oosterbeek, and the River Scheldt assault, before he was involved in the capture of Bremen. The dagger and associated items have been consigned to us from Captain Scott's son. A document of provenance detailing the above information, is included in the sale. Photocopies relating to Captain Scott's wartime career also included.

Note: Proceeds of the sale are going to The Army Benevolent Fund.

Additional notes: We are also selling Captain Scott's wartime uniform, along with various insignia and ephemera.
