Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords for sale. The cased Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords made by Steinhauer & Lück. The '935' Silver grade Cross with Swords  with  frosted and  burnished finish to the highpoints. The Cross complete with its original silk ribbon, and small end ties. The base to the Cross bearing the stamped silver mark '935', and digit  '4' (being the LDO number for Steinhauer & Lück).

The blue leatherette case with typical scalloped fastener. The black velvet lining shaped to accept the Cross. The lining to the lid in white silk.

Condition report: The Cross remaining in close to mint condition, with 99% of the frosted finish.  The silk ribbon clean and free from use or damage. The case with minimal use to the blue leatherette covering. The lining in close to mint condition.

Provenance: The Cased Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords was part of the hoard found by American troops in the vaults of Schloss Klessheim, Germany, (1945). The well-known American dealer Jason Burmeister, sourced - and purchased this Knights Cross from one of the former American soldiers who was based at Schloss Klessheim.

Burmeister, in turn, sold the Knights Cross to the British author, Gordon Williamson. This important German award features in Williamson's book, The War Merit Cross.  Bender Publishing (pages 184-185).
