Crimea medal for sale with the correct three clasps for William White’s entitlement; Alma, Inkermann and Sebastopol. The Crimea medal with contemporary-engraved naming and original silk ribbon.
Condition report: Medal and clasps with light age darkening overall, the silk ribbon showing light use only. Overall excellent condition, with one slight edge-knock at 9.00.hrs.
Surgeon William White's Crimea Medal is for sale with numerous document-photocopies relating to White’s military career.
Background: William Alexander White was appointed Assistant Surgeon from 18 October 1853 and assigned to the 47th Regiment of Foot (North Lancashire Regiment). White was despatched to the Crimea in 1854, and was present at the battles of Alma, Inkermann and Sebastopol.
In 1860, White was appointed to the Staff, and promoted to Staff-Surgeon in 1863. He served with the Royal Artillery from 1864 to 1869 as Staff-Surgeon Major, and retired from the Army in 1897 with the rank of Honorary Deputy Surgeon-General.
