A WWI 1914 medal-trio & Royal Navy Long Service Medal for sale. The 1914, medal-group to Private W.Turbyfield, Royal Marine Brigade. The medal group includes;
1914 Mons Star and Bar
Condition report: The medals un-cleaned and mounted to a clasp, with pleasing patination. The silk ribbons original to the medals, and in excellent overall condition. The Bar probably award issue. The cap & collar patches showing wear from polishing. The death certificate with stains. The photographs in good to excellent condition.
Note: Document-photocopies in the sale, includes copies from the Roll.
Additional notes: Turbyfield is shown as being born in London November 1876. He served on various ships including HMS Hogue, and HMS Alacrity. He joined the Royal Fleet Reserve just prior to the First World War. Turbyfield saw service at Dunkirk, and Antwerp, managing to get back to England when the unit was overrun by the enemy. Turbyfield served until 1919, and was awarded the Royal Fleet Reserve Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in 1925. He died in March 1960.
