Military  portrait miniature detailing a young officer with the 58th Regiment Foot  (evident from the black & gold regimental facings, crossbelt & buttons which show the regimental number '58'). Buck's minature is in fine condition, with strong colours, perfect gold frame and  powder-blue silk, glazed reverse.  Size: 7 cm x 5.5 cm.

Condition report: The watercolour on ivory remaining in excellent condition with clean vivid colours. The gilted frame in excellent condition and the glazed panels free from adverse scratches or damage.

Notes on the artist: Frederick Buck was an established, astute and prolific  Irish miniaturist.  His method of working balanced artistic integrity with addressing the need for a quick 'turnaround:' as such he often added the face and regimental details to previously executed 'template paintings.'

Additional notes: The regimental portrait miniature offered for sale was most likely painted in 1804, when the 58th were due to leave Cork for the Peninsular.
