When published in 1997, Gestapo Chief was recieved with shock in some quarters. The idea that SS General Heinrich Muller was assimulated into the American intelligence service after 1945 didn't sit well. Particularly the fact that Muller was given the American military rank of US Brigadier. In the Communist phobic America of the 1950s, Muller job was to hunt down Communists in government. The basis for the book is from US Intelligence files.
