SS Ring | Rohm-Putsch Dated | Provenance.

SS ring for sale with Röhm-Putsch date. The SS Totenkopf ring awarded to SS Officer Hans Lücking on 30th June 1934. The SS ring bears the standard characteristics of early-manufactured SS rings; it is struck- and hand-finished in silver with typical skull silver soldered to the ring-meeting line. The hand-engraved cursive script to the inside reads;

'Slb.Lücking 30.6.34 H.Himmler.'

Condition report: Typically, the SS ring shows signs of wear commensurate with use with much detail now faint. The death's head skull remains well defined. One Rune  to the side -, and Rune to the back - faint. Engraving to the inside-band clear and well defined.

Note: The Röhm-Putsch  SS ring for sale is a comparatively early award;the first SS rings were awarded in Autumn 1933. The date assigned to the ring being the same date as the Röhm-Putsch and possibly indicating the ring was gifted by Himmler to Lücking on account of his involvement in the Putsch. SS rings bearing Röhm-Putsch dates are particularly rare and desirable.

Background to Hans Lücking: detailed research into Lücking's SS career has not been published to date. The SS-Dienstaltersliste, confirms he was a member of SS-Standarte 58.

Provenance: the ring offered for sale features in the publication Inside the Allgemeine-SS (page 71, six photographs showing all details).

Synonyms: SS-Ehrenring, SS Honour ring, SS Totenkopf ring, SS Death's Head ring.

The Röhm-Putsch: was a purge which took place in German from  June 30 to July 2, 1934. It is also referred to as Operation Humming Bird (German Translation, Kolibi), The Blood Purge, and the Night of The Long Knives. SA leader Ernst Röhm was the most notable victim.
