Note: With reference to the the Military Cross decoration, the London Gazette confirms, 11th January 1919;

'He led his men with great gallantry against a strongpoint, when the company was held up by barbed-wire, he found a small gap, and dashed through alone in the face of withering machine-gun fire and although wounded, he jumped up and got into the enemy trench. His courageous leadership resulted in the capture of the strong point and thirty prisoners.'
