NSDAP Insignia 1923-1939

The embryo NSDAP of the early 192os wore a very simple uniform. The windjacket, worn by most members in 1923 evolved into the famous brownshirt with the re-formed Party of 1925. As the NSDAP as an organisation grew, so did a ranking structure for the Political Leadership. By 1938, it was obvious a much more complex ranking system was required. This, along with new uniforms, were launched in May 1939. For a time both the old uniforms and new uniforms could be soon as a curious mix, although as the war years continued, virtually all the old uniforms and rank insignias were changed.
