Only a handful of the SS Germanische Proficiency Sports Awards have come onto the market post-war.The award was first instituted on 15th August 1943, and made by the firm of Kremnitz based in the Protectorate. Records seem to collaborate that only some 100 or so awards were manufactured.
SS Germanische Proficiency award in Bronze. The large stylised sunwheel swastika design is manufactured in zink, and with a bronzed wash. The heavily convexed sunwheel swastika design has two black enamel Runes superimposed over the top. the two Runes fixed to the Sunwheel swastika with two crimped wires, two crimped wires to each Rune. The reverse typically devoid of manufacturer markings. A flat tapered vertical pin in place.
Size: 46.5mm across. Weight: 26g.
Condition report: The award in overall very good condition. The award with 98% bronzed wash intact. The enamel Runes (typically) slightly loose to the touch. One Rune with some damage to the black enamel (with an old repair). The four crimped wires remaining. The pin and hook assembly functioning.
Provenance: Acquired in 2002 from the Hamburg-based medal specialists, Detlev Niemann, for the Lionello collection. Retained within that collection to date. Various copies of papers, relating to these awards, included in the sale, along with Niemann expertise.
