Reichskommissar Holland silver ring for sale. The ring with a central flat silver tablet with the relief dedication 'ZUM SIEG DURCH KAMPF 1940' (Through Struggle We Gain Victory 1940). To the centre of the tablet the hand-engraved initials 'MD', and to either side of the tablet are cartouches with Reichskommissar style eagle/swastika motifs in relief. The silver band at the base of the ring bears the relief wording 'HOLLAND'. Inside the ring is the '800' silver content number to one side, along with the jeweler's initials to the other.
Condition report: Light use only.
Background to the ring: Once the Germans had occupied Holland in May 1940, they initially set up a military administration for the running of the country. Within a short space of time, this was disbanded in favour of a civil administration, which was headed by SS General Arthur Seyss-Inquart (Reichskommissar für die besetzten niederländische Gebiete). This silver ring (800 quality silver content) was made for leading officials of Seyss-Inquart's governement (including one for Seyss-Inquart himself).
Note: Preliminary research shows that none of the main department heads of the Seyss-Inquart governement had the initials 'MD'. Perhaps further research will reveal a high official within one of the departments with a match to the initials.
