Stunning survivor with near perfect decals

 

Waffen-SS M35 double-decal combat helmet manufactured by Eisenhuttenwerk Thale (ET). The helmet finished in typical smooth field-grey paint, and complete with lining and chinstrap. The rivets of the expected earlier ET domed-profile. The helmet with the ET pattern SS Runes decal, along with the swastika decal. Both decals with the expected large black border, along with overlapping lacquer line. The lining in mid-tan brown leather complete with drawstring. The chinstrap of typical black leather. The helmet shell stamped 'ET 64' and with a batch number of  '4374'. Additionally the helmet survies with its dome stap dating the helmet to 1938.

Condition report: The helmet surviving in overall excellent condition. Helmet retaining approximately 95% of the original smooth field-grey paint. Both Runes decal, and the Party swastika decal about 98% remaining. The mid-tan leather lining intact, but a couple of old repairs visible. Black leather chinstrap remaining supple enough, but the tapered end now broken off and missing. Dome stamp clear. ET and batch stamp clear.

Notes: This helmet is detailed on page 86 of Brian Ice's publication on German steel helmets. Helmets with the batch numbering '4374' being listed produced as double-decal SS, Heer, and kriegsmarine. A copy of the relevant pages included in the sale.

Provenance: Signed document from the consigner confirming how the helmet was acquired in Metz during 1985.
