Stunning pieces by the leading Heilbronn silversmith, Bruckmann

with exquisite relief Gau Thuringen emblems.

 

 

The knife and spoon of a plain form with a relief Gau Thuringen motif to each. Both pieces bear the impressed 'Bruckmann' maker name within cartouche to the reverse, along with the silver designation '90'. 

Condition report: Excellent overall condition, uncleaned and with a pleasant patina.

Notes: Ernst Friedrich Christoph 'Fritz' Sauckel (27th October 1894 – 16th October 1946) was Gauleiter of Thuringia from 1927 and the General Plenipotentiary for Labour Deployment (Arbeitseinsatz) from March 1942 until the end of the Second World War. Sauckel was among the 24 persons accused in the Nuremberg Trial of the Major War Criminals before the International Military Tribunal. He was found guilty of war crimes, and crimes against humanity, and was sentenced to death by hanging.

Provenance: These and other artefacts were taken from Sauckel's Gau Headquarters in Weimar in April 1945, by a member of the American Third Army. They were purchased by the USA-based military antiques collector, Robert Moses. One major collection since consignment to ULRIC of ENGLAND.
