A Panzer Rarity

Heer Panzer beret for sale. Manufactured in two pieces, with the typical black spun wool top, complete with correct pompom to the centre. The top with machine-woven Heer eagle/swastika, along with seperate oakleaves / cockade, both machine-sewn into place. The top fitted to the rubber hard shell with black wool outer covering, and six ventilating rubber grommets. The interior of the hard shell in black oil cloth, and with a mid-brown leather sweatband. The sweatband dated 1941 to the inside. Size '54'.

Condition report:The cap in overall excellent condition. The exterior free from damage or adverse wear. The interior showing typical cracking to the oil cloth lining, and the sweatband edge.

Notes: Introduced in 1935, the Panzer beret  was not particularly liked by tank personnel. Its bulky shape not condusive with operating within confined spaces. It was phased out in 1941, although remaining in use by some specialist services.
