SS chained M1936 dagger | Peter Burree collection

SS chained dagger for sale. The 1936 pattern, Type 2, SS chained dagger, with a fine ebony grip with the early nickel-silver eagle & swastika motif and the SS Runes enamel eye.

The SS chained dagger with typical, 'Type 2, solid nickel-silver chains, detailing finely impressed Runes and octagon to the reverse of one plaquette. The blade with the SS motto to the obverse, and typically with no maker present to the reverse. The scabbard-shell painted black. The central narrow-style swastika mount with a single, central screw.

Condition report: The dagger surviving in overall very good towards excellent condition. Grip with light use only, and no obvious signs of repairs or damage. The enamel Runes eye  (slight enamel loss) and eagle motifs perfectly fitted to the grip. Some contraction visible between the grip and uppper & lower guards. The upper mount with signs of the tang nut having been opened in the past. Blade in very good to excellent condition, nice and bright with much polished finish (original crossgrain largely gone). The typical, black-painted scabbard  in overall excellent condition with 98% finish remaining (close scrutiny reveals light spidering caused by age).

The solid nickel-silver fittings in excellent condition. Excellent detail remaining to the chain links. Spring clip functioning. Scabbard screws unmolested. Bottom ball free from any major dents.

Provenance: Peter Burree collection 1980 - 2019. Acquired by Burree from Ray Colt, proprietor of the military antiques business, Casque & Gauntlet. Anytime an artefact came into Colt’s shop direct from an ex-soldier or relative, Colt would telephone Burree, and he would purchase it. That became the criteria for the Burree collection. With the recent death of Colt, Burree has decided to dispose of his collection, and hopes others might get as much enjoyment from his various artefacts, as he has throughout his collecting years.
