SS Oberführer Fritz-Karl Engel signed & dedicated photograph for sale. The photograph with Engel wearing Allgemeine-SS uniform with the rank of SS-Oberführer. The photograph with ink dedication and signature in full, Fritz-Karl Engel. The dedication dated 15th September 1933. The photogapher's name appears to the lower left corner, Curt Meyer. Size: 18.5cm x 13cm.

Condition report: Overall very good condition. Some water damage, which has caused smudging to the dedication. 

 Notes: Engel became a member of the Schutzstaffel (SS) in 1930 and during the next three years he became the commander of SS-Standarte XI and SS-Abschnitt XIII (Stettin). In September 1933 Engel was appointed Police Chief and Head of Gestapo in Stettin.

A concentration camp was eet up outside Stetin, and this was under the authority of Engel. It seems Engel was believed to have taken bribes to release prisoners from custody.  Himmler felt that Engel  had been unfaithful to the SS. The camp was closed down, and Engel was expelled from the SS in 1934.

Between 1934 and 1945, Engel was the managing director of a cleaning company in Berlin. In September 1941 Engel re-joined the SS with the rank of Hauptsturmführer.

In May 1950, Engel was sentenced by a court in Flensburg to a five-year prison for crimes against humanity and maltreatment of Jewish prisoners in the concentration camp Stettin-Bredow.

Additional notes: This signed and dedicated photograph must have been one of the only ones given leading up to Engel's expulsion from the SS.
