Great Combat patina
Waffen-SS M42 single-decal combat helmet by the firm of Emaillierwerke A.G. Fulda (EF). The helmet finished in typical dark field-grey paint, and complete with lining and remains of chinstrap. The helmet with the typical EF manufactured SS Runes decal applied at the factory. The lining in mid-tan brown leather, bearing a size stamp '59' (? the 9 slightly obscured). Drawstring intact. The helmet shell stamped 'EF 64' and '1499'
Condition report: The helmet showing some general service use overall. Helmet retaining approximately 80% of the original dark field-grey paint. Decal with towards 95% remaining. Lining showing some general use, and relatively dry. Drawstring present and intact. Only section of chinstrap left.
Notes: This helmet is detailed on page 607 of Brian Ice's publication on German steel helmets. Helmet with numbering 'EF 64' and '1499' being listed as a single decal Waffen-SS helmet. A copy of the relevant pages included in the sale.
Additional notes: Emaillierwerke A.G.Fulda continued to apply decals to the M42 helmets until August 1943. By then, all helmets left the factory without decals.
Provenance: Signed document from the consigner confirming how the helmet was acquired in in 2005.
