SS Officer Candidate sword for sale. The SS officer candidate sword of typical later 1930s manufacture with nickel-silver plated fittings throughout. The fine decorative cap screwing into the tang. The black ebony grip with the standard '13' silver wire bands.

The polished steel blade bearing bearing large sham Runic stylised owner's initias 'M R'. The scabbard with black painted shell. The nickel-silver plated top mount with typical stylised scrolls (Runes octagon to the face). The bottom nickel-silver plated fitting correctly and pressed into position. The sword with an original Candidates silver and black flecked portepee, along with a black leather hanger. A long sword, the overall size is 101 cm. 

Condition report: The  SS Officer Candidate sword remaining in overall very good to excellent condition. The grip free from any splits or other damage. The nickel-silver mounts in good order. The blade with an excellent polished finish, and free from any unsightly pitting. The initials remaining clean and sharp. The scabbard shell with approximately 90% black paint finish remaining. The portepee showing commensurate age with the sword, generally clean and free from damage. The black leather hanger clean and supple.

Provenance: Originally from the collection of the UK-based edged weapons collector, Andrew Gates. Acquired for the Meadway Collection in 2008. This actual sword is shown on page 405 of the Wittmann publication, Exploring The Dress Daggers & Swords of The German SS.
