Provenance: This Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross originally awarded to SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Oswald Pohl, was confiscated from him by the former US Military Police officer, Richard Raabe. He was assigned to oversee the guarding of the German high ranking prisoners-of-war awaiting trial at Nuremberg. When each prisoner was brought in front of Raabe, he would remove from them all insignia, and awards. These were placed in the prisoner’s file. When the trials were finished, Raabe took all the insignias and awards as souvenirs. Raabe sold all the items to the Dallas-based Michael C.Bauman. Bauman in turn sold Oswald Pohl’s Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross to ULRIC of ENGLAND in 1992. Included in the sale, Photocopies of a newspaper article  about Raabe and his war souvenirs (complete with photo of Raabe). Photocopy of Raabe’s US Internal Security Detachment  - War Criminals Wing | Nurnberg Prison authorisation pass. Photocopy of Raabe’s entire collection of war souvenirs, with the Pohl award showing as item ‘6’ in the collection. A signed TBA authentication document from Bauman dated March 1991. A signed authentication document from Bauman to ULRIC of ENGLAND dated April 1992.
