SS chained M1936 dagger With Type 2 Chains

One of the best of its type

SS chained dagger for sale. The 1936 pattern, Type 2, SS chained dagger, with a fine ebony grip with the early nickel-silver eagle & swastika motif and the SS Runes enamel eye. The blade with the SS motto to the obverse, and typically with no maker present to the reverse.

The SS chained dagger with standard later 1930s, Type 2, heavy nickel-silver plated chains. The plaquettes with superb definintion, and beautifully polished Runes and skulls. The reverse of one plaquette impressed with the Runes and octagon.  The scabbard-shell with anodised black finish. The central rounded or rolled-style swastika mount with two screws.

Condition report: The dagger surviving in overall excellent condition towards near mint condition. Grip in perfect condition with no obvious signs of repairs or damage, and with a lovely deep black ebonised sheen. The enamel Runes eye and eagle motifs perfectly fitted to the grip, and retain 100% of their silvered finish. Beautiful fit of the grip to the uppper & lower guards with next to no contraction present. Blade in excellent towards near mint overall condition. The blade nice and bright with most polished finish and original crossgrain surviving (98%). The typical, black anodised scabbard  in overall excellent condition with 95% finish remaining (close scrutiny reveals a couple of small marks to the reverse).

The nickel-silver plated fittings in very good towards excellent condition, with most plating remaining (95%). Some slight pitting visible to the reverse of the chain-links. Excellent detail remaining to the chain link motifs. Spring clip functioning. Scabbard screws unmolested. Bottom ball free from dents.

Provenance: Acquired by the present owner from the USA-based firm, Craig Gottlieb Military Antiques, in 2006. A Craig Gottlieb guarantee certificate forms a part of the sale.
