A stunning Prinz Eugen sword for sale in unissued condition

Sword of choice for many members of the Waffen-SS

Eickhorn introduced their famous Field Marshall series of nine swords during the later 1930s. It was a clever marketing ploy by Eickhorn, using the names of important military heroes from Germany’s past. The rarest, and most desirable of the series is the Prinz Eugen sword. This pattern sword became favoured by many SS officers – undoubtedly since the Waffen-SS had a fighting division of the same name. This example, originating from the eminent Thomas Johnson collection, remains in unissued condition, complete with Eickhorn’s labels.

The Prinz Eugen officer sword with gilted guard and with a large eagle/swastika to the top, and another to the lower cross guard. The grip in black celluiod, and with fine silver banding.  The blade in polished steel, and bearing the Eickhorn makers name and logo. The scabbard in black paint finish. The sword complete with its porteppe, hanger and Eickhorn stores card. The card showing the sword model number and name, along with the length.

Condition report: The sword in unissued condition and showing storage age and use only. The sword with 99% gilt remaining and the black celluiod and silver banding both perfect and fresh.  The unblemished blade with 99% polished steel finish remaining. The portepee mint condition and fresh, as is the brown leather hanger. The stores card remains bright and clean. Scabbard with 99% original black finish.

Provenance: originally in the LTC Thomas Johnson collection (1980s). Purchased by the UK-based edged weapons specialist, Stewart Wilson, in the late 1980s. Acquired for the Reynolds collection in 1991.
