A rare to find example of the NSDAP DAF Meritorious Honour flag. These were bestowed in small numbers to factories who had made Meritorious Contributions to the German War Effort. An initial 19 of these flags were awarded to various factories on 1 May 1942, and by March 1944 134 had been awarded. It is believed that less than 200 were awarded by the end of war in May 1945.

Fine double sided red silk cloth banner with large central cogwheel and swastika to the centre, edged in silver wire brocades. To the corner a fine hand-embroidered bullion wire War Merit Cross without swords. To three sides is silver-aluminium wire fringing. Aluminium pole rings remaining in place, each marked RZM marked. 

Condition report: Flag surviving in overall excellent  towards near mint condition. All rings in place. Fringing complete. The flag colours remaining bright and unfaded. The flag free from adverse staining or mothing.

 

 

The Rheine underwent large-scale attacks on 5 October  in 1944, and 21 March 1945. The conquest of Rheine took place on April 2, 1945 after some fierce fighting by units of the 157th British Infantry Brigade (5th Battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderers Regiment, 7th Battalion of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) Regiment).
