This beautiful Kriegsmarine dagger by the prestigious firm of Horster has their 'in-house' optional extras of a Damascus blade, and an ivory grip. The dagger has survived in stunning condition, complete with its portepee and hangers, and also its original Horster guarantee tag.

The Kriegsmarine dagger with a beautiful off white ivory grip, with fine gilt wire binding. The dagger retains the gilted eagle pommel with swastika. The lower guard with typical anchor motifs. The dagger with a fine full Damascus blade. The scabbard of the Lightning Bolt variety, which has particularly fine heavily chisseled oakleaves decoration. The  dagger  complete with its correctly fitted silver-aluminium portepee, and Horster silver finished guarantee tag. Completing the dagger is a pair of fine Kriegsmarine hanging straps in dark blue moire on dark blue velvet along with golden fittings.

Condition report: The Kriegsmarine dagger in overall excellent towards near mint condition. The dagger with virtually all its original gilt plating  (98%). The grip free from cracks or chips, and wire binding intact and tight. The Damascus blade in excellent to near mint condition with the usual dulled steel polished appearance of a true Damascus blade. The blade free from any areas of pitting or other damage. Typically, the blade without makers logo. The scabbard free from any dents or damage, and with 98% of its mercuric gilting in place. The portepee in good clean condition, and free from fraying. The hanging straps in excellent to near mint condition.

Provenance: The dagger acquired from either Thomas Johnson (USA) or Thomas Wittmann (USA) during the  late 1980s, or early 1990s, for the Douglas Pratt Collection. Remaining in his collection to date.
