First Production 10 Rivet German Cross in Gold

The Holy Grail For German Cross Collectors

For sale, the German Cross in Gold with ten rivets.  The initial production by the prestigious firm of Deschler & Sohne. The obverse to the cased German Cross with black enamel swastika, gilt wreath and grey-coloured, anodised sun rays.

The reverse to the German Cross with silver finish. Assembly with ten small solid rivets. The award with a vertical, flat-tapered pin assembly in polished silver. Weight 65gm

Condition report: The Cased German Cross is offered for sale in excellent overall condition. The silver edge rays lightly polished. The black enamel swastika is in excellent condition, free from any damage. The silver centre showing just light age patination. The golden wreath remaining sharp with nicely polished bands. The grey anodised rays in excellent condition, with only the very high points showing loss of paint finish (98% anodised finish remaining). Reverse silver finish showing overall age darkening. The small solid rivets intact and the assembly tight. The polished pin assembly fine and working.

Note: The Deschler manufactured ten rivet German Cross was the construction for the first awards. Experimenting with other constrcution techniques led to Deschler manufacturing the award with less rivets.

Provenance: Acquired for the Collection Lionello from a Milan-based medal collection in the 1980s. Remaining in that collection to date.
